Believing in openness to state institutions and joint cooperation between the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, the University of Technology/ Department of Civil Engineering and the Environmental Research Center.

A delegation of members of the Environmental Research Center, headed by the Center’s Director, Prof. Dr. Zainab Bahaa Muhammad in the environmental symposium held in the Department of Civil Engineering, which was entitled (The Nationally Determined Contributions Document for Climate Change, Combating Desertification, and the Importance of Green Spaces) on Monday, 2/19/2024.

The symposium aimed to address climate changes in Iraq and what treatments contribute to reducing these changes, as well as the contribution of the agricultural sector to reducing desertification and increasing the green area.

The Ministry of Environment/Legal Department-Consultancy Bureaus has decided to authorize the Environmental Research Center (ERC) at the University of Technology (UOT) as a consultancy and environmental bureau in the field of preparing the reports on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the period of three years from the date of 27/2/2024.

Lect. Dr. Zahraa Zahraw Farhan Al-Janabi participated in the International Patent Exhibition held within the activities of the 17th International Certification Proceeds Festival, which was held under the slogan of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him): The Awakening of the Free and the Secret of Victory for the period 14-18 February 2024 in the Holy Governorate of Karbala. The teacher was honored with a shield and a certificate of thanks and appreciation by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine of Hussein, Dr. Alaa Zia al-Din, who praised the importance of the subject of the patent tagged (treatment of oil waste in water using biological activities), which includes the production of an environmentally friendly biological kit to decompose or dismantle oil waste in water. It has a high disassembly efficiency of more than 90%, and the kit is characterized by low production costs and the availability of its raw materials.

 

The lecturer Dr. Muwaffaq Hussein Muhammad at the Environmental Research Center implemented a training program for advanced staff at the Ministry of Oil/Basra Oil Company entitled “Official Preparation Strategies in Managing the Crises of the Energy and Environment Syndrome” in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Technology for the period 11-15/ 02/2024.

This course provides information about systematic approach to deal with the eco-energy crisis using Official response strategy to prevent and protect public health and environment from negative consequences of increased energy demand and environmental deterioration. A focus on the how governmental agencies prepare for such crisis before they happed is highlighted.
