The Centre of Strategic Research and Studies – University of Defense for Military Studies, has met the invitation of the Environment Research Center – University of Technology (ERC-UOT) on December 13, 2017. The meeting has concluded several recommendations and future collaborations that reflected the understanding of both parties of the present and future challenges of Military strategic related to defense and sustainable development.

The staff of the Environmental Research Center warmly congratulates the heroes of our forces in the Iraqi army, the counter terrorism apparatus, the federal police and the popular popular crowd on the occasion of the liberation of Iraq and the overthrow of the criminal state of caliphate. Iraq has lived a strong unity, the mercy and immortality for our martyrs and the speedy healing of the wounds of heroes and shame on the forces of evil and darkness.

The President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ameen Douai Thamer, gave the shield of the university to Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid Mohamed Jawad for his efforts in the success of the third scientific conference on environment and sustainable development held at the University of Technology for the period from 15-16 / 11 / 2017 The President of the University expressed his thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Center and commended the sovereignty of the spirit of cooperation between cadres and solidarity with the administration to reach advanced scientific centers.

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Issa and in the presence of the President of the University of Technology Dr. Amin Dway Thamer The Environmental Research Center at the University organized the Third Scientific Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development on 15-16 / 11/2017. Corresponding to 15 November and at the University of Technology Theater Hall. The conference was divided into two days with the opening session and two scientific sessions on the first day and eight scientific sessions on the second day.

The opening session began with the national anthem and then a wonderful recitation of the Holy Quran. Then the President of the University spoke at the opening of the conference, which welcomed the attendees and spoke about the importance of the conference in terms of the importance of environment and sustainable development in our time. The opening ceremony was attended by more than 300 academic personalities interested in environmental issues and sustainable development from Iraqi universities and various ministries and state institutions as well as the private sector and civil society organizations interested in the environment.
The scientific session was opened under the chairmanship of Prof. Alaa Abdul Hassan Attieh, Assistant to the President of the University for Scientific Affairs, which included the opening lecture by Prof. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Ulum, entitled "The Oil Industry between Environmental Sustainability and Development Requirements", which addressed the importance of applying the principles of environmental sustainability and conservation of natural resources, The extraction of oil and oil industries has been discussed extensively participated by many of the attendees in the meeting.
The second scientific session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Riad Hassan Hadi Al-Anbari, head of the Department of Construction and Construction Engineering, which presented five scientific lectures on the requirements of sustainable development of the Iraqi Marshlands and the importance of renewable energies in achieving sustainable development as well as environmental assessment of contaminated sites in Iraq.
On the second day, eight scientific sessions were held in four halls in the building of the Environmental Research Center, in which 51 research papers were presented and discussed in various environmental topics and sustainable development. In conclusion, the closing session of the conference was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Sami Abul-Nun Ajil, Assistant Rector for Administrative Affairs, which included a speech by Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid Mohamed Jawad, Director of the Environment Research Center, in which he spoke about the importance of organizing such scientific conferences. And to extend their thanks and appreciation to everyone who attended and participated in the activities of the conference with a discussion or discussion. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Presidency of the University, the supporting bodies, the supervisory, preparatory and scientific committees and other committees.
